Biography of “Teit”

Can CH AFTCH OTCH Makaila’s Telkwa Teit QFTR MH WCX CGN

“Teit” was born August 3rd, 1999 in Mission, British Columbia. He is sired by Can CH Makaila’s Maximillian, owned by Cheryl Young of Makaila Labradors. Originally purchased as a family hunting dog, Teit is the first dog owned and trained by Nolan & Karen Nelkenbrecher of Maple Ridge, B.C. and is now part of a family of three Labradors including his son.

The journey of accomplishments with Teit started with the achievement of his first two field titles, Junior Hunter and Working Certificate, in 2001. The Senior Hunter title was achieved a year later and it was then that Teit’s real potential as an excellent marking dog was realized. In the following years, Teit was trained for field trials and the intelligence and desire to work became more apparent. He finished most Qualifying stakes that he was entered in, becoming one of the top three Qualifying dogs in Canada and achieving the Qualifying Field Trial Retriever title in 2003. As his field trial training became more advanced, it was apparent that being competitive in the major stakes of Open and Amateur would be a reality.

In 2004, Teit achieved his Amateur Field Trial Championship, winning a 54-dog Amateur stake in Logan Lake, B.C. The following year, he finished four out of six Open stakes, placing second in two of them. He qualified for six Canadian National Retriever Championships and was entered in the 2005 Canadian Amateur National Retriever Championship in Saskatoon. In 2005, Teit earned his Master Hunter title while still running field trials through to 2006. He was retired from field work at an early age to maintain his health for an enjoyable retirement. Soon after, it was realized that more could be achieved with him on a less physically demanding level.

Competitive obedience became the next activity and the level of training from the field work transitioned nicely. Teit achieved his Companion Dog title in 2007 and moved on to achieve his Companion Dog Excellent in 2009. Well before and up until this time, he was entered in confirmation classes at various shows and in 2008, he achieved his Canadian Championship.

With all of these achievements, there was no looking back and the road to a Triple Championship was ahead. On May 30, 2010, Teit received the last qualifying score toward his UD. He is now a Canadian Triple Champion, the third Labrador Retriever to accomplish this ever. Regardless of all the accomplishments, Teit’s ability as an outstanding hunting dog will always be his greatest talent.
