BC HIGH POINT JUNIOR DOG 2011
"Sniper" is the product of a breeding between a good Qualifying level female that I owned and the great 251 point All Age Champion "Dino" (FTCH/AFTCH Firwoodhills Dynamo) owned and trained by John Caldwell. As a very young pup it was evident that Sniper had inherited a lot of Dino's talent. As my training partner Dixie Lane said many times "he just seems to understand” and often times mused "any idiot could train a dog like that." He continued to progress at an astounding rate and many times amazed me at how quickly he grasped new concepts. While Sniper would be considered a "soft" dog he is by far the most intelligent animal I've known. He learned all of the Open All Age concepts quickly and easily, including poison birds, check downs, retired guns and was doing Open level blinds reasonably well by the time he was 12 months old. In addition to finishing all but one Junior Field trial this year, he completed 5 Qualifying stakes. Sniper still has some maturing to do as there is a lot of puppy in him yet, but I am confident that his drive, natural ability, intelligence and good "Dino genetics" will produce a noteworthy Qualifying year in 2012 and that he will transition well into a very competitive Open All Age Retriever. I am truly honored and blessed to be a mentor to a dog as willing and talented as this little guy is. A special thank you to John Caldwell for making the process work so easily. It was a great couple of weeks in Alberta training with John and Dino and the group, while waiting for the "right time". Brian Griffin
